Blown-In Insulation Services from Performance Roofing
Experts for Blown-in Insulation in Federal Way
Blown-in insulation is an important part of proper insulation in any home. Without adequate insulation, you are wasting money heating your home. Blown-in insulation is the most common form of insulation used for existing homes. This is because it can be installed without ripping out walls or floorboards.
The Importance of Proper Insulation
The purpose of insulation is to slow the transfer of heat between the conditioned inside of a home and the outside. It does this by preventing air movement and thereby the transfer of heat by preventing convection. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, ninety percent of homes are under-insulated — increasing energy costs by ten to twenty percent. The result is that without a properly insulated home you are wasting money. If your home is not properly insulated, having some blown-in insulation installed will help you to save money well over the cost.

Blown-in insulation is a loose fibrous form of insulation that we blow into cavities and other hard-to-reach areas. There are two main types of blown-in insulation: The first is fiberglass, which is most commonly used for attic insulation. The second is cellulose, which is basically shredded paper and is most commonly used in wall cavities and the spaces between floors and ceilings. It is an effective form of insulation to use for post-construction installation because it does not require open access to the floor and wall cavities. We can blow the insulation through small drill holes that we can plug up when the work is done.
There are three main places where we offer blown-in insulation. Two of them we cannot fully access without tearing the house apart.
How Performance Roofing Helps
We install blown-in insulation by running a hose from a truck to where the insulation is going to be. The truck contains a storage area for the insulation and a blower to pump it through the hose.
When we are installing blown-in insulation into an attic, we run the hose through the access or inside the house. This requires our installer to get up into the attic and spray the insulation around until it reaches the right depth.
When providing insulation into the space between floor and ceiling, or wall cavities, the insulation is blowing through a small hole drilled in the floor and walls. We then spray the insulation until it fills the space.
Blown-in insulation is a good way to insulate areas of a house that we cannot access easily after construction is completed. If your house lacks insulation, it is a good way to get the insulation that you need.
